The Free National Movement is committed to preserving the special character of the Family Islands. The development of small and medium sized environmentally friendly hotel resorts in the Family Islands will allow residents of the Family Islands to enjoy the benefits to be derived from expanded national tourism without placing excessive demands and stress on the natural resources, capacity and character of the islands.

Having introduced effective Local Government in the Family Islands and having made provision for Family Island Districts to benefit from tourism taxes collected in their districts from hotel licensing fees and guest room taxes, the FNM in its second term in office will:

Continue to promote Family Island destinations as separate and distinct vacation destinations with a view to increasing Family Island tourism, increasing revenues to be raised in and dedicated to the provision of services in the Family Islands, and increasing employment opportunities in Family Island tourism ventures.

Promote inter-island cruising and internal vacations for Bahamian citizens.

Strictly enforce environmental guidelines to ensure the development of environmentally sustainable resorts on the Family Islands.

Promote the development of small Bahamian-owned resorts, guest houses and other tourism related facilities on the Family Islands.
