The Free National Movement believes that the electronic media in The Bahamas are essential tools for national progress. In particular, educational and social development can be furthered by means of radio and television. Accordingly, the Free National Movement is committed to strengthening the role played by state and privately-owned radio stations and by the state-owned television and privately owned cable television services.
Having promoted private broadcasting by granting licences for four radio stations, viz, 100 JAMZ, Love 97 and MORE FM, in Nassau, and COOL FM, in Freeport; having approved the establishment of Cable Bahamas to distribute cable television service throughout the country,
the FNM Government during its second term in office will:Establish a National Broadcasting Commission to serve as the regulatory mechanism for radio and television. Transform the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas into a non-commercial public information facility. Ensure the production and broadcast of locally-oriented programmes suitable for family viewing. Introduce private Bahamian-owned, television services to The Bahamas.
