Agenda to And For The 21st Century
The Free National Movement, as in 1992, has reviewed its mission, identified its goals, and developed key objectives for our second term as the Government of The Bahamas.
Our overall goal is to translate the improvements in the economy into the betterment of the lives of all Bahamians.
To achieve this goal, while keeping in view the Party’s "Fundamental Tenets", key objectives and specific intentions for each area of governmental responsibility have been enunciated and are set out hereunder.
The policies and programmes of the Free National Movement will continue to:
stimulate and effect economic growth and sustainable development;
promote equality, social justice and fair play;
foster a safe, attractive and Better Bahamas.
Because we have successfully accomplished most of our defined objectives with respect to economic recovery during our first term, we are satisfied that the plans, programmes, policies
and procedures we adopted have set us on the correct course. It will, of course, be necessary to exercise vigilance, discretion and good judgment to ensure that any necessary adjustments are made in a timely fashion.
We consider that our attention can now be focused even more greatly on the nation’s social services. It cannot be disputed that acceptable levels of social services can only be paid for when there is buoyancy in the economy. Our second term, then, will buttress those aspects of society which themselves affirm and further strengthen economic development, namely, health, education and welfare services.
Our accomplishments in the areas of law reform, the judiciary, immigration and upgrading of our security services have been quite remarkable. So, we sincerely commend to you our "Agenda To And For The 21st Century" and urge you to endorse it, adopt it as your own and participate in its implementation.
Together we can make our Bahamaland better than any other nation our size.
